Chula Vista’s New Rapid Transit System Soon to Open
As someone who has watched the development of this new fast transit system being built this last year, I can blog that it will soon be operating in eastern Chula Vista. The city has been working on getting this dedicated roadway finished and this 26 mile rapid bus route will soon connect Otay Mesa and eastern Chula Vista to downtown San Diego. The work crews are installing upgraded traffic lights, new paving and Mexican fan palms, with their irrigation systems, all up and down the route. The final touches are being completed. Soon someone will be able to get on a bus at the Otay Ranch mall and quickly get to a Padres game downtown.
This 128 Million dollar project should be opening in very early 2018 and will be operated by the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System. There will be seven stops east of the 805 freeway alone with three stops in and around the Otay Ranch Mall and all its many shops and restaurants. A bridge is being constructed to allow these buses easy crossing of the 125 Toll Road and not having to stop or slow down. When finished this rapid transit system will make the travel to and from eastern Chula Vista quicker and far less painful. 26 buses will service the route and make fewer stops and will not have to contend with the regular traffic flow.
The stations in Chula Vista will have modern shelters and level platforms for easy boarding. Nice facilities with bus ETA boards for customer convenience. The main path will be along Palomar road with its own dedicated lane with upgraded paving. It is my opinion that this new busing route will greatly increase the ease of commuters with employment and activity centers downtown. Perhaps the greatest feature is when completed the Otay Mesa access point will bring much needed traffic flow to the many shops, stores and restaurants all over our Eastlake Chula Vista community.
